ASTDBR Receives SUPERSTAR Status from National!!

Dear Baton Rouge Chapter Board – ASTD would like to congratulate your chapter for being a chapter membership SUPERSTAR. To achieve SUPERSTAR status your chapter’s joint national and chapter membership percentage as of December 31, 2009, must have been over 50 percent. The Baton Rouge Chapter Board joint membership percentage was 57%, which exceeded the 30 percent Chapter Operating Requirement (CORE). This is an outstanding achievement and shows the chapter’s commitment to informing members of the benefits of both ASTD national and the local chapter.

Congratulations and thank you for your leadership!

 Employee Learning Week 2009

Employee Learning Week 2009 is fast approaching.  Have you thought about ways to include ASTD Employee Learning Week (ELW) activities into your company’s calendar for the week of December 7th through 11th, 2009? If you haven’t already started planning, here are some ideas to showcase your training and development department’s worth to the company. Most of these ideas have little to no impact to your annual budget.

  • Post a Learning Tool or Tip of the Day on your e-newsletters, blast e-mails, or social networking pages such as Facebook or LinkedIn.
  • Offer daily learning quizzes and prizes.
  • Launch company blogs on workplace learning topics.
  • Post employee testimonials on the value of learning .
  • Announce your 2010 calendar of learning events and department resources.
  • Post the Employee Learning Week logo or banner on your Web site or e-correspondence
  • Involve your CEO and senior executives in recognizing and communicating the value learning brings to your organization.
  • Schedule a brown bag “lunch and learn” during this time period.
  • Work with your Human Resources team to conduct a Career Fair and/or Networking Fair.
  • Conduct a company-wide book study group.
  • Help employees create individual personal/professional development plans to increase and enhance their skills.
  • Conduct employee assessment and/or satisfaction surveys related to training and development during this week.

ASTDBR would love to include your participation in the 2009 ELW activities in our press releases and ELW activity report to ASTD. You and your company may even be listed on the ASTD Champions Web site. This year Amedysis, Neighbors Federal Credit Union and LSU are all highlighted at the ASTD national level.  For more detailed information on ELW activities from across the country access www.employeelearningweek.org/champion.html .
