The Baton Rouge Chapter of ASTD provides approximately 100 members with a forum for the exchange of professional development opportunities and resources as they strive to improve workplace learning and performance. Our members include workforce development, performance improvement, and human resources professionals from corporate, academic, and community entities across the Greater Baton Rouge metropolitan area.

 

Our Mission


The mission of the Baton Rouge Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development is to promote and advance the growth, competence, effectiveness, and visibility of individuals involved in education, training, and human resource development or closely related fields.

 

Our Vision


The vision of the Baton Rouge Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development is to be the primary authority and resource dedicated to the training, education and development of competent training professionals in the Greater Baton Rouge area.

 

Our History


The first meeting to form ASTD was held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1943. The association was officially established in 1944 and today, there are over 140 chapters across the United States.  Beginning as the Louisiana Chapter, the Baton Rouge Chapter is proud to be recognized as the first and longest continually active chapter in existence.

What is the difference between the ASTD Baton Rouge chapter and National ASTD?

The Baton Rouge chapter focuses on issues facing you here in the Baton Rouge area and meets regularly to provide you with an opportunity to network locally with others in our profession.  The National/International ASTD includes subscription to T+D magazine, discounted rates to conferences, research assistance, and more.

 

If I am a part-time training and development professional, a student interested in the HRD profession, or a non-training professional is this the professional association for me?

ASTD's services, programs and products are especially valuable to you as expand your limited HRD background and develop your career.   We can even help non-training professionals increase the quality of their training projects, while decreasing the time spent in preparation and research through networking and program information.

 

How often does the ASTD Baton Rouge Chapter meet and do I have to join to be able to attend?

We have monthly programs and periodically throughout the year we have other professional development events.  Check out our Events Calendar for details.  No, you do not have to be a chapter member to attend most of our events; however, membership will bring you many additional benefits beyond our great programs.
