Training ideas from JULY PICNIC

We had an excellent MVCASTD July Chapter Meeting with a “roundtable idea bank” and picnic (with play ants – very creative!) in a Texas theme working on the current popularity of Texas Hold’em.  Tammy Uskavitch facilitated the meeting.

During registration we asked people to come with their training challenges and any resources they would like to share with others.

The activity was based solely on the needs and ideas of the participants!  Playing cards were dealt to each person attending and that determined seating groups that changed every ten to fifteen minutes based on the card each person was dealt.

The group with the “combined winning hand” even won prizes!

The bonus was our all our table switching garnered a tremendous assortment of workplace learning information we can all put to work very inexpensively – and some are free – in our organizations.

Here are the questions we got answers for:

§          How can I convince my company to free up people time for training?

§          How do you schedule training when you meet resistance due to production schedules?

§          What are some current training trends?

§          How can we blend learning – classroom and online?

§          How can we add creative interaction to training and what are some innovative skill practice ideas?

§          How do you resolve many different levels of interest into one training to keep everyone’s attention?

§          What is the best way to get buy-in from participants that need the training?

§          Is review of material more or less useful than assessments – with review being Q & A in a group?

§          Need good new technologies to apply in courses – during or after to reinforce learning – also free resources with no strings attached.

§          I need ideas on developing short (3-5 minutes) podcasts for training.

§          Share tips to take a training developed by someone else and make it your own.

§          What is an optimal amount of time for self-directed study within a larger instructor-led session?

§          How do we deal with the naysayer in an audience when they bad mouth the presenter?

§          How to more effectively integrate and engage virtual attendees in all environments.

§          What are some sources for grant funding for corporate training?

§          How can I move from training delivery & development to management?
