Refresher Training -
Today's SIG was another successful event!  We had several new members join us for the first time, and, as usual, the discussion could have continued long after our time was up.

Some key points I took away from the discussion:

Often it's necessary to prove the need/value for a refresher training.  Whenever possible, if it is tied to metrics and assessments it is more likely to be approved.

Refresher training can happen in the classroom and also outside the classroom, such as the email tips shared by Rick.

What did you learn, or did you have additional questions you'd like to ask the group?  Feel free to add comments and keep the discussion open!
Training Across Generations - BPFI SIG September 19
Thank you to everyone for another successful SIG!  We had a great turnout today and the discussion was informative and interesting.  Several people brought presentations and handouts, so we had a wealth of information to start it off.

We were provided wtih information on the different life events experienced by the different generations in the workplace, and how that affects outlook and work ethic.  We also discussed how much we can rely on these profiles and when situational leadership is enough to manage and train employees.

I found the discussion fascinating because of the mixture of published information combined with personal experiences of those present.  Feel free to keep the discussion going by replying to this blog!

Why 95% of Training Doesn't Stick
Thanks to all that participated in the session today, what a great turnout!  And a special thanks to Donalee Frary for an excellent presentation!

During the session, we discussed some of the reasons behind the lack of behavior change of participants and we learned a coaching model that can close those behavior gaps.

Now that you are back in your work environment, how will you apply the model?

Please continue the blog by sharing your insights and feel free to ask Donalee questions.

Thanks!

Follow-up to BPFI SIG 5/16
Wow, so I'm officially a blogger now!  How exciting!

We had another productive SIG today at Victaulic (thank you, Rick!).  It was a little different from previous SIGs in the we didn't have presenters, but instead held an animated discussion that, as usual, could have continued long after our time was up.

The topic for today was Continuing Education Units and Certification.  We discussed this topic from two angles:

1. Certification and CEUs for ourselves as trainers

2. Accrediting our training modules to provide CEUs to our employess and customers.

Personally, I learned a great deal about the value of CPLP certification.  What I love about these SIGs is that I always come away with 2 or 3 pieces of information I can apply immediately to my professional life and today was no exception.  I know many of you had more to say when we ended today, so please take a moment to reply to this blog and keep the discussion going!  If you weren't able to join us today, here's your chance to join in.

A question to get us going...

How many of your employers recognize some form of certification for trainers?  Do any of your employers require certification?
