Follow-up to BPFI SIG 5/16
Wow, so I'm officially a blogger now!  How exciting!

We had another productive SIG today at Victaulic (thank you, Rick!).  It was a little different from previous SIGs in the we didn't have presenters, but instead held an animated discussion that, as usual, could have continued long after our time was up.

The topic for today was Continuing Education Units and Certification.  We discussed this topic from two angles:

1. Certification and CEUs for ourselves as trainers

2. Accrediting our training modules to provide CEUs to our employess and customers.

Personally, I learned a great deal about the value of CPLP certification.  What I love about these SIGs is that I always come away with 2 or 3 pieces of information I can apply immediately to my professional life and today was no exception.  I know many of you had more to say when we ended today, so please take a moment to reply to this blog and keep the discussion going!  If you weren't able to join us today, here's your chance to join in.

A question to get us going...

How many of your employers recognize some form of certification for trainers?  Do any of your employers require certification?

Great Meeting

I really enjoyed our SIG today. It was different because it was the first time we had no presenters, and just ran it with a relaxed discussion format. I found it very informative and hope others did as well!

CPLP and Chapter Help

Hi All:
I agree that the discussion was great.  Here's the link to the info on ASTD website for CPLP.

Please let the chapter board know how we can help you with your professional development--that's what we are here for.

Thanks
Don

Food for thought

Friday's meeting was excellent.  It's great to trade ideas with other internal training professionals; despite the diversity of companies, we all seem to have something in common.  I came away inspired and actually considering the CPLP as a future goal.  I'm especially pleased that the chapter wants to be so supportive.  (Now if only I could find a foolproof cure for test anxiety!)

Interesting Topic, worth coming out in the rain for!

To echo Joan, I agree that there is a lot of common ground even though there is diversity.  I also found the discussion very enlivening, with different perspectives on CPLP certification compared to/with Master's Degree programs.  Of course there is no definitive right or wrong answer; that is on an individual level, based on motivation, career goals, etc.

It was worth leaving the house on a day off to attend!

Thanks,
ANDY
