Our chapter was recognized for its submission to the ASTD “Sharing Our Success” (SOS) program. The national SOS program identifies best practices among local ASTD chapters and uses them as models for other chapters.
Ken Steiger, Chair of ASTD’s Chapter Recognition Committee (CRC), said, “This recognition honors the Eastern PA Chapter’s best practice that demonstrates how ASTD advances the workplace learning and performance profession on a local level. We are pleased to honor the chapter with ASTD’s SOS recognition.”
We submitted two best practice ideas: Knowledge Management Initiative and Membership Recruitment.
The Knowledge Management Initiative is designed to capture, document, organize and publish the operational policies and procedures of the chapter. Standard Operating Policies/Procedures (SOP) for each functional area and supporting area were created as an outcome of this process.
Our Membership Recruitment efforts were carried out by contacting national ASTD members that were not local chapter members. Board officers personally called or emailed over 75 national members in our area and invited them to attend a free networking event. We also offered a discount membership fee at the event and we obtained 9 new chapter members and 4 renewals.
We felt the effort was very successful.
