President

Kristine Foranoce

Kristine moved to Las Vegas nine years ago where she jumped into the hospitality industry and training field. Kristine has been a national member of ASTD for over 6 years and joined the local ASTD chapter five years ago. Kristine holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration/Human Resources from Western Washington University and a Masters of Arts degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.   Kristine is the Director of Hotel Training and Guest Relations at New York-New York Hotel and Casino.  She looks forward to sharing her passion for the training and development field through her leadership as President of the Las Vegas Chapter. 

In her position as President, Kristine is responsible for providing the vision, structure, guidance, team spirit, communication systems, and encouragement for Board members to carry out specific tasks, goals and responsibilities.

VP Professional Development

Cheryl Tyler

Cheryl is an independent organizational development consultant and a former Vice President of Human Resources and Training for a national hospitality chain,   She has personally built HR and Training departments from the ground up while cultivating many young professionals who now serve in executive positions around the country.

Cheryl strategically aligns with learning and development partners and works with clients in the hospitality, healthcare and technical industries.  Recent projects include instructional design, facilitation and ongoing support of a healthcare initiative called School at Work.  Originally funded by a Department of Labor grant, and now privately managed, the School at Work program has been offered to over 4,000 employees in over 250 hospitals across the country with proven ROI results.  Additionally Cheryl and her partners work in Silicon Valley offering leadership development and coaching to clients such as Yahoo! Cheryl is also very focused on her partnership with the Institute of Heart Centered Leadership, an organization that approaches executive leadership from a holistic perspective.  Cheryl’s expertise and network of professionals, not to mention her creativity, integrity, and commitment to task will serve as valuable resource to the position.  In her position as VP Professional Development, Cheryl is responsible for networking and booking the speakers for Chapter meetings as well as coordinating the details with the speakers for the chapter meetings. 

VP Member Services

Rick Hunt

Rick is the Guest Service Trainer for ARAMARK Las Vegas who excels in managed services including F&B & facilities. He currently assists with the Las Vegas Convention Center, Cashman Center, and the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Prior to this, he was Training Manager at several hotels here, and active in Restaurants, Beverage and Banquet facilities in Las Vegas for the past 19 years. A UNLV graduate, he is active with their Career Placement center.

In his position as VP Member Services Rick is responsible for all chapter membership activities including membership applications, the membership database, reporting to ASTD National, and membership attendance at meetings.

VP Communications

Jason Gardner

Prior to becoming owner of Flipchart This, Jason was a training manager with a hotel/casino company where he facilitated new hire orientation, leadership development classes, customized department training and retreats, customer service initiatives and refreshers, and relationship building workshops. He also conducted train the trainer sessions with leaders from departments including safety and security, employee relations, and food and beverage. These sessions included effective preparation techniques, presentation and delivery skills, and PowerPoint tips.

Jason has written custom courses in the human resources field on sexual harassment, effective performance appraisals, and generational and cultural diversity. He has also developed leadership courses on emotional intelligence, employee retention, recognition, and effective communication.  He has a Human Resources Manager certification from the Community College of Southern Nevada, a Training Manager Certification from Langevin Learning Services, and a Master Graduate certification from Rapport Leadership International. He is also a member of SHRM in addition to his membership in ASTD.

In his position as VP of Communications, Jason is responsible for establishing communication between Board members and ASTD Chapter members through the use of the monthly newsletter and the website. 

VP Finance

Kristi Sheahan

Born in Southern California and moved to Las Vegas in 1979.  The middle child of nine I always had aspirations to become a banker.  In 1995 I started working for a local bank which over the years had been acquired by other financial institutions, now Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.   I currently work as a Learning & Development Consultant with the Wealth Management group.  As a trainer I am able to share my past experiences as the service provider to those I train and help them in their roles.  I like to make training fun so I create an atmosphere where individuals enjoy and appreciate the material they take back to their job.  I am currently a junior at UNLV where I am working on my bachelors in human resource management and marketing.  I am excited to be given this opportunity and look forward to the community involvement of the Las Vegas chapter of ASTD.

In her position as VP of Finance, Kristi is responsible to ensure the chapter’s sound financial status and maintain continuity of the chapter’s financial records.

VP Community Relations

Bernie Vasquez

Bernie oversees the service culture training for MGM GRAND and The Signature.  He leads a team of Service Excellence Specialists as they spearhead enhancement initiatives for the Hotel, Food & Beverage, Casino, Entertainment, and General & Administrative divisions.   He directs the development of service Champions Groups which monitor service levels and tackle issues in the competitive and dynamic gaming environment. 

Bernie obtained his MBA in Management from New Mexico Highlands University and his BBA in Marketing from the University of North Texas.  Bernie served as the Events Chair for ASTD Hawaii from 2005 – 2007.  He volunteered in a number of university and community outreach programs, and his work with the Hawaii Chapter helped him prepare for the position of VP Community Relations.  He is an active member of the Nevada Lodging & Hotel Association and the Latin Chamber of Commerce.   

In his position as VP of Community Relations, Bernie is responsible for the expansion of chapter activities into the professional, political, and social community of Greater Las Vegas. He oversees all community service activities of the chapter.

VP Administration

Leen Zaballero

Leen Zaballero is the team-building specialist for Repario, Ltd.  Her objective is to support non-facilitators deliver effective team initiatives focusing on: communication, leadership, trust, problem solving, critical thinking, or group consensus.  She also facilitates for Dr. Clue, a team-building treasure hunt that creates a challenging, clue-solving adventure in the parks and streets of historical districts and neighborhoods around the world.  Her special skills and interests revolve around group processes, participatory strategic planning and appreciative inquiry.

Leen is a cum laude graduate of UNLV with a B.S. in Post Secondary Workforce Education.  She is currently working towards a second Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in WLP with a proposed thesis on "Implementation theories for Diversity Education" .  Her graduation goal is May 2009. 

In her position as VP of Administration, Leen is responsible for providing administrative support for the Chapter and Members including meeting minutes, and meeting RSVP's.
