Long Island > President's Message

Greetings from ASTD Long Island.  I speak for the entire Chapter Board when I say that we are thrilled to be starting another exciting year.

Last month, our Board held it's first strategy planning meeting of the term.  During our meeting, we discussed what our mission was as a Board, and how we can continue to add value to our members.

Long Island Chapter members should expect the highest possible standards of personal integrity, professional competence, sound judgment and discretion from its leadership.  As workplace learning and performance professionals the Board is committed to themselves, their profession, and the ASTD members at large.

Our Board Members strive to create an organization that is:

  • Respectful and Welcoming:  Recognizing the rights and dignities of all members
  • Forward Thinking and Flexible:  Keeping informed of pertinent knowledge and competence in the workplace learning and performance field
  • Relevant and Credible: Providing members with the highest quality of education, training, and development
  • Adding Value:  Contributing to the continuing growth of the profession through networking

This is our commitment to our members, which supports ASTD National's overarching Vision and Mission to our profession.  We look forward to continuing many of our popular annual events, including our CLO Forum and Member Appreciation Night, as well as adding new value through a CPLP Study Group, enhanced website features, and more.

While our national economy shows signs of turning around, we also understand that many of our peers are still looking for work, and we will continue to focus on ways to support our members in transition.  One way we will continue to do so is through our enhanced Job Posting Board available through our new website.  In order to assist our members in transition, we are making this board free to both viewers and employers.  If you hear of an opportunity you think may be of value to our members, please let us know so that we can add it to our Job Posting Board.

I thank you for you continued support of our chapter, and welcome any comments, suggestions, or feedback you may have.
