New Orleans

Welcome to the New Orleans Chapter of ASTD!

Did you know the seeds of ASTD were actually sown in New Orleans?  It happened during a training committee meeting of the American Petroleum Institute in 1942. The United States was at war, and training was critical to the meeting the needs of increased production and replacing workers gone to war. The following year, a group of "training men" met for the first board meeting of the American Society of Training Directors in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was later renamed the American Society for Training and Delopment, and the headquarters were moved to Washington, D.C.  Today, members of our local chapter are working hard to bring programs to the business community that will help revitalize and stabilize our post-Katrina workforce.

Next Chapter Meeting: Tuesday September 23rd

Tracey Davis McDade,
Corporate Consultant and Facilitator
will be presenting "Defining the Dimensions of Diversity"

Creating an inclusive and welcoming working environment for all has become one of the focus areas for the human resource community.  Yet, according to a SHRM white paper in June 2007, only 5% of companies have successfully incorporated diversity into their culture.  Tracey will present the highlights of the SHRM Diversity workshop focusing on the role of training in improving the odds for companies and their employees.

Training and Development Certificate Program
To remain current in the workplace and to address issues that affect you and your organization’s productivity, you must continually develop and update your skills.  The goal of the Training and Development Certificate Program is to offer training and human resource development professionals a systematic method for developing competencies.  The program allows for the immediate transfer of knowledge to the trainer’s job roles and daily tasks.  ASTD’s 35 key competencies form the foundation for these intensive sessions.
