Volunteer Opportunities with NEOK ASTD

“Develop me, Inspire me, Connect me, Educate me, Improve my market value!” That is our mission. We think it is an important mission and it guides everything we do. It is how we bring value to our members.

But realizing this mission takes some work; more work than can be done by our board members alone. That’s where our volunteers come in. They help make all our programs and activities possible. It is also how we keep our chapter healthy. After all, today’s committee member is tomorrow’s board member!

Being a volunteer is a great way to get connected with the Training and Development community. And it’s fun! The good news is there are all sorts of volunteer opportunities available, from being heavily involved on a committee, to spending just a few hours helping with a single program.

If you are interested in getting involved, just contact any of our board members. Our board members are listed under the “About” section of our web site.

Icebreakers

Feeling chilly? Would you like to break some ice? If you are interested in conducting a 5 - 10 min icebreaker before a chapter event please send a request with your icebreaker idea and date you would like to participate to neok.programs@gmail.com. You will be contacted via e-mail by the VP of Programs if you are selected to present.

Web site committee

I am looking for 2 – 3 people to help monitor the NEOK ASTD web sites, check for outdated materials, suggest improvements and general maintenance.
Total time requirements 3-4 hours per month including a 1 hour online web meeting to review the site.
Members of this committee will learn about HTML, SharePoint, LinkedIn and Moodle.
If you are interested contact neok.communication@gmail.com.

NEOK ASTD 2009 Membership Committee

Greetings NEOK Members.

To further strengthen our chapter and achieve our goals for 2009, we are seeking members to serve in a variety of roles on a Membership Committee. Structurally we will form three groups initially: a Calling Committee; a Greeting Committee; a Chapter Guide Committee.
  • We need 2 members to serve as a Calling Committee. Members of this committee will have the opportunity to interact, and build rapport with members they may not see regularly at meetings. This is a great opportunity to expand your network. The Calling Committee will:
    • Call members to remind them to renew 90/60/30 days in advance;
    • Call members who do renew to thank them for renewing;
    • Call non-renewing members to see why they are leaving. Calls will be made within the week after their membership expiration.
  • We need 4 to 6 members to serve as Greeters who will be at the entrance at each meeting, and will give special attention to guests. Greeters will sit with guests to explain what is going on and what we do. Members of this committee will set the tone for the chapter in the eyes of our guests. This is another great opportunity to expand your network outside the circle of trainers, as well as with others in the training field.
  • We need 2 to 4 members to serve as Chapter Guides to sit with new members to explain what we do (consider it a new member orientation). Members of this committee will have the benefit of serving as a short-term mentor, and will have the opportunity to build new contacts.
  • The entire Membership Committee will develop a new member information packet. The information may be produced both hard copy and soft copy (online).
  • The entire Membership Committee will work with Marketing to develop materials describing member benefits.
  • The entire Membership Committee will work with Marketing to develop and administer a membership recruitment campaign targeting ASTD national members who are not local chapter members.
  • The Membership Committee will work with Accomodations to create method to identify guests and new members at each meeting.

To serve as a volunteer member of the Membership Committee, contact Walt Hansmann, Membership VP at NEOK.Membership@gmail.com.
