ASTD-SCWC 2007-2008 Goals:
- Become better known in the marketplace as the place to go for Workplace Learning & Performance development.
- To create a succession plan for all Board positions.
- Set a quality program schedule on a rolling 12-month calendar.
Thank you all for a year filled with learning opportunities and growth. As we reflect on 2008, let’s remember the experiences that have brought us to where we are today.
The launch of our new website earlier this year has provided us with a consistent look and will help us in gaining presence in the marketplace. The website is connected to the National ASTD website and helps to streamline communication between our local chapter programming and what other chapters can offer for professional development opportunities. This new connection has built bridges with other chapters so everyone benefits.
We have met several of our 2008 Chapter Goals, including setting a program calendar that has high caliber speakers and interesting topics. Our 2009 calendar is also complete. You can check it out here. If you have suggestions for programs, topics, speakers, or locations for events, please contact any member of the Board of Directors.
The elections held in December of 2008 granted us with new board members to assist with new initiatives upcoming in 2009, including expanding our succession plan for all Board positions. We are looking forward to expanding our volunteer opportunities as well.
Our 2008 financial year ended on a stronger note than expected. After struggling in 2007 and ending the year at a loss, we drastically cut expenses in 2008 and focused on cost-effective, high quality programming. Thanks to consistent program attendance and board efforts, ASTD ended 2008 with a $2700.00 gain. As expenses increase, the Board of Directors must continue to look for creative options for increasing income and decreasing cost. Our new board is working on a 2009 budget and other bill payment options in order to reduce excess expenses.
Thank you for participating in our programs and learning opportunities in 2008. I will transition into the Past President role for 2009 and look forward to helping the new Board members serve our membership with enthusiasm. Thank you for a great year!
Lisa Jensen, ASTD-SCWC Outgoing President
