2009 President's Letter
Happy New Year, and welcome to the Valleys of Virginia Chapter of the American Society of Training and Development.
My name is Marie Bliss, your President for 2009. Our mission is to “provide leadership to individuals, organizations and society to achieve work-related competence, performance and fulfillment.” This year your board has chosen to emphasize two main areas:
- Improved communication with our membership
- Targeted chapter meeting programs
During February, every member will receive a letter which outlines the exclusives to membership on our chapter web site, unique email address used for meeting notifications and our decision not to raise membership or chapter meeting costs in 2009 for members. Your membership is important to us and we plan to stay connected with all of our members through variety methods.
The 2009 list of programs for chapter meetings and our one-half day event in October offer a variety of topics. You will see more emphasis on eLearning this year. It is a passion of mine and as I look out over the horizon, I see more businesses turning to online learning as a means to reduce travel costs and provide consistent training. Mark your calendar for October 16th for a special event entitled “eLearning on a Tight Budget”.
If you have any suggestions for Chapter improvement or want to be involved with one of the board committees, please do not hesitate to contact any of us. We appreciate your confidence and look forward to working with you this year.
