The Red Cross is recruiting volunteers with training expertise.  Based on the risks they have assessed, they are preparing our community for a worse case disaster scenario, a level 3 hurricane. This  is an event that is about 30 years over due to hit the NY, NJ area.  In 2007 al nor'easter put almost 2000 people into Red Cross  shelters due to flooding.  Our community is at risk and the Red Cross's goal is to ensure that we are prepared. .

The Red Cross is undertaking a  capacity building project to be capable of  sheltering 25,000 people, community residents, and/or evacuees from surrounding communities or NYC.  To accomplish this, they need to train 5000 people in the community to be capable to support Red Cross disaster operations.   Their target will be corporations through a program they are rolling out called "Ready When the Time Comes" to engage teams of employees.

Our contact, Amy Sutton, CEO, Greater Somerset County Chapter, has worked in a corporation as an Organizational Development Leader and was well aware of the talents of training professionals.  She recognized that these individuals would be an asset to their work, and as asked us for any help in bringing awareness to their volunteer needs.

Amy is available to talk about their work at your place of business as well.

Can you spare some time to volunteer?
