REALeadership:  Save the World.  Grow Your Leaders.  Grow Your Business.

Michelle Sterling, CPLP

Organizations are increasingly recognizing the value of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts in the workplace.  But to move the impact of these efforts beyond those of a public relations or volunteering event, it is critical that leaders be trained how to strategically approach CSR for sustainable innovation and organizational growth.  This program will define CSR and provide insights on how to link training as a vital leader in your organization’s CSR efforts.

Understand the history of CSR and how it is impacting our choices as consumers and employees, and our roles as leaders

Maximize employee engagement by practicing the REALeadership model

Use a new business model to innovate strategies that leverage brand value and produce long-term sustainable results

Recognize when, where, and how to take action and contribute to building a worthwhile legacy

 Call for Presenters

December Community of Practice (CoP)

“Facilitative Learning:  Expect the Best”

An emerging strategy that is changing corporate training from being trainer-centered to being learner-centered is facilitative learning. Facilitative Learning is used by workplace learning professionals to promote experienced-based learning and participative involvement by learners in their own education and development. It is also an effective tool for facilitating meetings, running workshops and guiding collaborative team projects.

Join us for our next Community of Practice where we will identify the opportunities for facilitative learning in the workplace and explore its practical application.

During this discussion, we will explore:

The advantages of facilitative learning.

  • The difference between training and facilitative learning.
  • The personal facilitation core competencies.

This presentation is free and open to the public – you don't have to be a member of ASTD to attend.

Speaker: Toby Dresner

When: December 3rd, 2009

Time: 5:30 to 7 PM

Where: Avnet Headquarter

2211 South 47th Street

Phoenix, AZ 85234

Community of Practice - Call for Presenters!

ASTD-VOS seeks local (Phoenix-area) training and development professionals to be presenters for Community of Practice meetings. We look for presentations that meet the following criteria:

  1. A skill, tool or concept is introduced (usually related to the training profession).
  2. An explanation of how the skill, tool or concept can be applied on the job is provided.
  3. Hands-on application (practice) for the audience of the skill, tool or concept.
  4. Resource list or handout participants may take away from the presentation.

Previous presentation experience is not necessarily required. We encourage this to be a two-way learning event for the audience and presenter. Contact Quincy Conley at 480-338-8999 or astd@vos.astd.org.

Community of Practice Meetings (CoP):

Community of Practice meetings (CoPs) are free monthly events that provide you with “quick hit” knowledge and skills in a specific area related to training and development. In addition, CoPs provide a fun informal setting for networking with local training professionals.

These meetings are open to the public for free. Anyone and everyone is welcome, you don't have to be a member of ASTD to attend.

If you have any questions, please contact us at professionaldevelopment@vos.astd.org.

2009-10 CoP Calendar:

Winter   /   Spring

  • Facilitating Organizational Change
  • Coaching
  • eLearning
  • Leadership Development
  • Social Learning Tools

We've got some new additions to the website, so please engage!

What are they? The VOS Blog and VOS Wiki pages.

Our goal is to stay on top of the trending in training and development in order to give you, our members, the straight talk and opportunities to explore what these can do for you in the workplace learning environment you are creating within your company and/or business atmosphere.

Let us know of any training and development workshops that can benefit Valley professionals so we can post them on our calendar of events. Sent the notices to webmaster@vos.astd.org and please join our ASTD-VOS community created from our 2009 Web 2.0 Social Learning Conference and post them there as well. We look foward to a fantastic 2010!

Please take some time, check them out and participate if you would. With the Web 2.0 components and strategies being all the talk about town now (and a growing trend for training and development), we felt it only appropriate to engage them here as well. The permissions should be set for you to be able to participate, but let us know if you have any difficulties.

Btw... if you have some expertise with SharePoint and would like to volunteer for the Web/Tech Committee, please let us know. Contact the webmaster@vos.astd.org
